To restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ. BCP 855

Welcome to St. John's Episcopal Church!

St. John's Episcopal Church follows the Church's mission: to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ (BCP, 855). St. John's has for 69 years lived out Christian witness through worship and fellowship, education and service, grounded in the Anglican tradition. Whatever your Church background, you are welcome at St. John's.

It is with great pleasure we announce that, after an extensive Search Process, and following the unanimous recommendation of your Call Committee, the unanimous approval of your Vestry, and the approval of Bishop Scott Mayer, that St. John’s Episcopal Church has officially called the Reverend Charles Layne Smith to be our Sixth Rector and Father Layne has accepted our Call.

At present, Father Layne is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Social Work at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. During his career, he has spent much time as both a university professor and as a parish priest. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Government and Political Science from Austin College; Master’s Degrees in both Sociology and Social Work; and a Master’s of Divinity Degree from Nashotah House. He is a native Texan and is most anxious to be back in Texas as a full-time parochial minister. He has been married to his wife, Casey, for thirty-one years. We anticipate their arrival in mid-July.

"ALMIGHTY GOD, giver of every good thing; Look graciously on the people of St. John’s Episcopal Church, so that as a compassionate and grateful congregation we may welcome Layne Smith as our sixth rector. We thank you for raising up among us faithful servants for the ministry of your Word and Sacraments. We pray that Layne and the people of St. John’s Episcopal Church may be an effective example in word and action, in love and patience, and in holiness of life. Grant that all of us together may serve you now, and always rejoice in your glory; through Jesus Christ your Son our Saviour, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AMEN!"
