Music Ministry
Music Ministry at St. John’s
The music ministry at St. John’s seeks to glorify God through creative interpretation of the church’s musical literature; the use of artistic means and vehicles to show and present the grace and grandeur of God; and the participation of men, women, and children of St. John’s Episcopal Church and beyond, using their own considerable talents to magnify, celebrate, and worship our Heavenly Father. The music ministry is centered on Sunday services in which organ, chime choir, choir, soloist, and instrumentalist provide musical and liturgical leadership.
St. John’s Choir
The St. John’s Adult Choir leads music for the 10:00 a.m. Sunday worship service. Our choral offerings are traditional in style, and the music is presented by vested Choristers and organ. Don Godlevski is organist for St. John’s and provides the foundation for most of our musical activities. The choral anthems and hymns which reflect the Lectionary of the day are drawn from the choral repertoire of a variety of periods and styles. Hymns are taken from the 1982 Hymnal. The choir rehearses every Wednesday evening, 7:30 – 8:30 p.m., in the church sanctuary. The St. John’s Choir is open for new singers who enjoy singing choral music.

The Chime Choir
St. John’s chime choir rings for Sunday services monthly, and rehearses every Wednesday evening from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., in the church sanctuary. The Chime Choir is led by Peter Figert, former O.C. band director. We have a dozen members ranging in age from 9 to 78 and have been ringing for the Lord for ten years.

Our Director
Our music ministry is under the direction of Jim Caddell. Mr. Caddell draws his expertise from a life – long commitment to teaching and making music. His school orchestras have won numerous awards in Texas and New Mexico during his 34 years as an orchestra director for ECISD. Jim has always had a special love for the people of St. John’s and was recently appointed as our interim choir director while the church searches for a new rector.
